Shock Jox do it longer and harder than WFISF!

August 31st, 2007 one comment »

World Famous In San Francisco is not the only place you can hear shit talking about the Bay Area music scene. Shock jox Patrik and Liza from West Add Radio’s Cobain In a Coma have been shit talking for WAY longer than WFISF. Here is a sample of some recent conversation:

Patrik: Don’t you have a band that you hate, and want to talk shit about?

Liza: Oh yeah, well, I don’t think they’re worth mentioning.

Patrik: I love egging on band feuds.

Liza: You guys. That band, Little Teeth, suck okay? Like, some guy emailed me about setting a show up, and he sent me a link to this band Little Teeth. And I thought, why does this sound familure? So I clicked on it…

Patrik: It’s Andy (Tisdall)’s  band

Liza: …it’s like the worst part of when that girl from the Cranberries does that freak out thing with her throat.

Patrik: I love when she does that freak out thing with her throat.

Liza: It’s really, really bad. It’s so fucked. IT’S SO FUCKED.

Patrik: I like Little Teeth because Dannie (Murrie) reminds me of Alanis Morissette. (laughs)

Liza: These are the bands in San Francisco I hate: In the number one slot, Clipd Beaks, Little Teeth… What’s with all these beaks and teeth and little things?

Patrik: It’s pathetic. They probably all shop at Little Otsu and buy little pieces of paper.

stolen moments

The Pompeii Forever party was awesome, and there will be a post about it sometime this week, but there’s one story I’d like to share now. At the end of the evening, when everything was covered in confetti lava from fake Vesuvius, I changed out of my awesome polka dotted toga (sorry, no pictures!) that Hazel made and back into my street clothes. I’d had my camera with me so I set it down next to me while I changed. When I had finished changing, I could not find the camera. Admittedly, I’d had a few drinks so maybe I knocked it on the floor or maybe I hadn’t even had it with me. I checked the floor: nope. I asked elton tom: nope. I rummaged around the couch where jocelyn was sacked out: nope. I checked all flat surfaces: nope. I know I’m not that drunk and I’m tired of looking, it must’ve been stolen. This is a total bummer because a) I liked the photos I got and b) ew, gross. We let the people still at the party know the camera was missing and took off.

A few hours later we get a call saying the camera had been found, so awesome. When I look through the photos I see this:

CIMG2186.JPG
Me asking elton if he’s seen my camera.

CIMG2185.JPG
Me checking my clothes for my camera.

CIMG2203.JPG
Probably the guy who took my camera.

OK, so like, I mean no harm no foul and these photos did make me laugh, but seriously. Didn’t you go to kindergarten? You don’t just take, you ask. Geez!

The Happy Hollows play San Francisco Thursday

August 28th, 2007 Comments Off

The Happy Hollows are not the kind of band I usually like. They look really wholesome and really inde. As you’ve probably figured out by now, I’m more sympathetic to rappers – especially female rappers – Anyway – Will from New and Used Records turned me onto them. Will invited them to play at the Make-Out Room on Thursday. They’re driving up all the way from LA for this one show. I’m really excited to see them. They seem original and listenable. That’s enough for me, it should be enough for you too. Come out to see them, you might be glad you did.

Shesus Khryst

Holy shit! You MUST WATCH Remy Ma’s new video for “Shesus Khryst”

Remy Ma is so death metal. And she always has bleached bangs! What is not to like? She is SO my hero right now. I’m totally over Jesus now! Give me Shesus! I wish we had some female rappers in the Bay like Remy. I have been loving Remy ever since I heard this freestyle on SmashTime radio:

Hate crime charges in S.F. man’s beating

A couple who allegedly beat a San Francisco man on a Lake Tahoe beach last month will be arraigned today on charges of assault and committing a hate crime, the El Dorado County district attorney said Tuesday.

Joseph Silva, who is in his 50s, and his wife, Georgia Silva, 49, face multiple charges of assault stemming from the July 14 incident. The couple allegedly knocked the Indian American victim to the ground and kicked his face, fracturing several bones.

Minutes before the assault, the Silvas allegedly yelled racial epithets at the victim’s fiancee and her cousin, who are also Indian American, District Attorney Peter O’Hara said.

The Silvas, who live in South Lake Tahoe, believed the man, his fiancee and her cousin “were Iraqi or Iranian or Middle Eastern,” O’Hara said.

An attorney for the three, Edwin Prather, said the Silvas called them “terrorists” and “relatives of Osama bin Laden.” Georgia Silva sat on the male victim while her husband repeatedly kicked him in the head, Prather said.

333 recordings!

Originally putting out seven inch records in runs of 333 by the likes of Deerhoof, Crack: We Are Rock, and Curse of the Birthmark, Matt now puts out an excellent podcast for those of us with difficult listening tendencies.

New Passionistas Songs!

August 21st, 2007 one comment »

I know Myles writes for this blog now, and that Elton Tom is filling in on drums for the month of august, so its probably a bit gauche to post about these two new Passionistas songs but I can get away with it because I ain’t in no band. I don’t know where you all were for Logo Moi/The Passionistas/Greg Ashley show last Friday, maybe you were at home googling your own band or nursing your bloody wang, but if you weren’t there you fucked up. This show was super fun! The music was loud, everyone looked hot, got drunk, and got laid. Its totally true!

Anyway, check out these songs. My friends were talking about Little Dark Room, but I’ve been playing Don’t Hit Snooze uncontrollably. I’ve gotta agree with Eva from Logo Moi, “Yeah! Fuck snooze!”

Numbers Record Release!

August 20th, 2007 Comments Off

Apparently, Numbers are now a pop band. Maybe this is old news, but maybe there’s a lot of people like me who overindulged in this band the summer of 2002 and then couldn’t really bear to hear them anymore. At anyrate, I don’t know if this is natural evolution or a calculated move since the post punk revival has ended, but either way I was pleasantly surprised when I found I actually wanted to listen to all of the mp3s over at Upset The Rhythm from their new album, Now You Are This. Exciting!

Anyway, they’re having a record release this Saturday at the Elbo Room:

hey all! our new record, “now you are this” comes out this week on kill rock stars and we are psyched! come celebrate with us this coming saturday…
