Well, we’ve attended, reviewed, taken photos of, played, and made fun ofThe Mission Creek Music Festival and now in its lucky thirteenth year I’m helping to organize it. If you don’t know much about the festival, its focused on emerging (and established) San Francisco music and art and has been host to some of the most fun shows I’ve been to. Currently the festival is booking, looking for new talent, and taking submissions through SonicBids (which I know is a favorite topic amongst people organizing and applying to festivals).
13th Annual Mission Creek Music And Arts Festial
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday May 15, 2009

13th Annual Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival – CALL FOR ARTISTS
When
Oakland – Friday, July 10th through Sunday, July 12th
San Francisco – Wednesday, July 15th through Saturday, July 25th
Call For Artists
MCMAF is currently accepting applications from emerging artists. In choosing which performers will play the festival, we use a variety of criteria, mainly the following: 1) Talent and Originality – Are the performers skilled in playing and performing, and do they have something special that we don’t see every day? 2) Popularity – While we are often excited to give new performers a chance, we must be able to pair them with another act that has substantial draw. Imagine if someone threw a festival and nobody came! 3) Professionalism – We expect all performers to promote themselves, be punctual, cooperative, and pleasant to work with.
Mission Creek Productions is pleased to announce, the 13th season of San Francisco’s beloved Music and Arts Festival. A variety of Bay Area venues, both big and small, will host a wide array of events including film, dance, art, music and multi-media presentations.
MCMAF is an annual collaborative effort presented by a consortium of local independent concert promoters, musicians, artists, filmmakers, dancers and multimedia performance artists. Through this forum, Mission Creek strives to:
Foster community among local Bay Area artists
Showcase emerging artists and musicians
Bring innovative and diverse programming to a wider audience
Mission Creek strives for ethical programming and sponsorship–selecting music and art in a fair and democratic way, and using green and sustainable technology wherever possible.
Mission Creek, a fiscally sponsored project of Intersection for the Arts[1] , was founded in 1996 by local Bay Area musician/artist Jeff Ray. Until Mission Creek, there was no known festival that promoted independent Bay Area musicians and artists. Now in its 13th year, the festival has grown tremendously in size and attendance, from a one-day event with eight bands and an audience of approximately 100 to a multi-day event with up to 180 acts, serving an audience of approximately 5,000.
Its been some time since these pages were graced by Myles and its time for our regular check in. Since then, he’s graced the pages of The San Francisco Bay Guardian, VICE and now soon BUTT. Myles sez:
I have a new video that I got taken of me for a BUTT Magazine project. I totally suck at the guitar butt I am sort of naked!
Down about being separate but ‘equal’? Mystified by the new breed of gay unicorns the california supreme court birthed today? Don’t sweat it, come to the gay bar and have a good time with us!

The way California votes may be a total bummer but those bozos aren’t going to be at this show. There will be advance copies of the new Brian Glaze record Green Living (or, pre-order it through this here site). Mon Cousin Belge will continue to inch their way closer and closer to Spinal Tap like absurdities on their endless run of reunion shows! Hard Place will be making a rare San Francisco appearance and this is also your first chance to catch Myles of The Passionistas doing his new, super polished, super professional, super solo project.
Mad Props to Ms. Juanita Moore for coming up with San Francisco’s first ever SUCCESSFUL tranny clubs. EVER!!! I mean look at these gorgeous he-she’s/”boys” on their new flyer! Have you ever seen cuter girly-BOYS? Men, I mean. No but seriously, MAJOR KUDOS to Juanita on her success.
Back on May 2nd, Jeremy Smears and I had the good sense to drive out to the Undisclosed Location to check out Fancy Space People. The band, which hails from Los Angeles, boasts the delightful Nora Keyes on vocals and the infamous Don Bolles (Germs) on guitar. The band sounded like a cross between Curved Air meets early Roxy Music with a dash of Slapp Happy, but the vocal stylings of Nora made this group have a sound all their own. The band was tight, Don amazed us with his sweet back-up vocals and awesome outer space guitar licks. We want to try and get them back up here to SF! We’ll keep you posted. Check out the killer track Spectacle Electric Crystalline posted on their myspace page!
Apparently there is a surprise band playing the World Famous in San Francisco show at The Eagle on the 28th. Im so excited to hear them. Dont wanta miss these guys! I hear their fans are INSANE!!!

ALL I KNOW IS, I’M YOUNG, I’M GAY AND I’M TAN,

JAVA, TAHITI, IBIZA, CAMEROON … FIRE ISLAND.
I MISS YOU.
