The SF Weekly found Green Living, released 7/28 on World Famous in SF, to be “a combination of ’70s bedroom-freak Gary Wilson and ’80s pop screwball Lawrence Hayward of Felt, recorded at the epicenter of the current hipster underground.”

We here at World Famous like those comparisons and are extremely pleased that Green Living entered the CMJ top 200 it’s first week out. Response from DJ’s has been extremely positive:

“Oh man, the 1980s! Glamour! Dancing! Not being obnoxious and creating music that throws back this hard to that era is an incredible, incredible feet. Synth rock nu-wave that is so incredibly spot on and so well crafted I couldn’t not give it a nod.”

“got hooked on (1) second it started – I feel no shame in liking something that combines the most addictive musical elements of disco and lo-fi with retro pop rock.”

“Lo-fi masterpiece with an air of 60’s psychedelic pop/folk, hints of surf rock and new wave bleeding through. a moody, atmospheric sound.”

Copies of the LP will be on sale as well as a limited edition promo CD version of the album that is not available in store. Tom & Jeremy of World Famous in SF will be there live and in person selling the record. Please come out and help us celebrate the release of this excellent LP!

Bonus! This is a triple record release show, also appearing The Splinters, and The Perverts all celebrating new vinyl. The Splinters’ first official release is the Splintered Bridges 7″ on the excellent Double Negative Records (Battleship, The Fucking Ocean).

Garage rock trio The Perverts celebrate the recent release of their debut 7″ by HBSP-2X Records, and the band opens Saturday’s show.

How big will this craze get? Is it an arsonist who started with port-a-pottys and has now graduated to autos? Is it bored school kids? Is it the staff and volunteers for the Mission Creek Music Festival now that they have nothing to do?

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444.

Hunx & His Punx – http://www.myspace.com/hunxsolo
Hunx, of Gravy Train!!! fame, strikes out on his own, exploring what is probably the only viable path for girl group sounds: via the ramones in the aftermath of the gay bomb. Hunx’s music harkens back to doo-wop and classic rock-n-roll groups like The Ronettes — except dirtier, queerer, and with abs-and-tights instead of beehives. Hunx, the man, is not only cute, but his songs will make you smile.

Icy Lytes – http://www.myspace.com/icylytes
ICY LYTES is an LA duo formed in the spring of ‘08. Fresh as Bel Air royalty, MO’NEEX & BEEX have paired up at the peak of all things hyphy-crunk-ghettofab and flashy as their name states. Much like a chicken incessantly laying eggs, Beex drops remixes, beats, edits, and rhymes scrambled into the dirtiest, dopest, homegrown LA sounds, while MO’NEEX is unleashed, causing jams like LA traffic…but no one can stop her flow.

I’m so sad Ginger’s Trois has closed I’m almost afraid to visit the locations new incarnation.

www.rickhousebar.com

Back in the early 90’s I used to drink and laugh with my friend Frederick Thomas at Ginger’s and we used to joke that if we went to Ginger’s to drink too often we developed a form of bar face called Ginger’s Trois’kinsons. It’s reputation for being an establishment with a friendly and comfortable atmosphere made the place famous. It was always fun to stop in and have a drink. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose. The new site is run by the folks at Bourbon & Branch so the drinks will be good but there is potential for douchebaggery with the clientele.
