June 19 – July 18, 2009
opening Friday, June 19th, 6-9pm
The Jancar Jones Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibit of new work by San Francisco-based artist, Chris Lux, titled Give Me Some Peppermint Freedom.
In his second solo show with the gallery, Lux will present a series of new oil paintings and sculptures. Drawing from historic regional movements, his anti-slick yet modern aesthetic embraces Bay Area figuration while incorporated found objects invoke funk assemblage. His use of vague representation achieved through the rapid application of paint owes itself, in part, to the more recent New Image sensibility while evoking his own distinctly manic gestures.
In his new work, Lux moves away from his previous, more graphic style toward looser abstract compositions. With a focus on the sculptural qualities of the paintings, Lux experiments with variations in stretcher size and installation techniques to effectively alter the gallery’s navigable space.
Chris Lux was born in San Francisco and received his BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. His work has been exhibited at the Luggage Store in San Francisco, Tree House Gallery in Los Angeles, and Dam, Stuhltrager Gallery in New York.
For more information please contact Eric Renehan Jones or Ava Jancar at info@jancarjones.com or visit www.jancarjones.com. Gallery hours: Thursday – Saturday, noon – 6pm and by appointment.
Which artist on World Famous in San Francisco has neighbors complaining that said artist plays their own music incessantly?
Which lovable local DJ (who is straight male identified) was overheard at Club Feral asking “how many straight guys do you think are here?” Only to have it pointed out that many of the guys in the club were FTM transgender. At first he didn’t believe it but after a second look he began to question everyone’s gender, so much so that after the club on his walk home a homeless woman pulled her pants down to prove to Mr. DJ that she was all woman! Relax honey, it’s all good.
Which local musician/composer who often boasts of his credentials was almost banned from a hip mission coffee joint? Seems like the staff can’t stand him.
Which local musician, who seems to be in every band on the scene, is not only a music whore but an actual prostitute? Let’s hope he practices safe sex!
Which two local gay identified bands have a heated rivalry? Don’t expect to see them on the same bill! Can you feel the hate tonight?
Which local artist has a reputation for being a racist? Careful how much you drop the “n” word! People are talking.
Sorry no comments, Randy you got SOME OF THEM RIGHT!. We never reveal blind items.
So, as the newest Youtube convert, I believe I have thought of a project that might get me partnered and making money, without really doing any sort of work or anything like that. Well… watch the video, and i would enjoy it a great deal if my friends and the musicians who read this blog would participate… Download the song here… http://www.mediafire.com/?qtbm2wwi5ml
Look, its totally hard to keep a blog going when everybody who writes for the blog is having some kind of real life happening. Real life??? Don’t worry though, we’re not quitting like some other blogs out there! Check this:
* My computer is busted up. I’m blogging on the sly from work! * Myles is moving and looking for a job. Got any leads? Help him out! * Elton is totally in Florida where blogging doesn’t exist. * Some of us are starting a record label. Its true! * Some of us (not me, I’m not award winning. yet.) are off winning awards, also true! With video:
