You might be thinking “Scott Walker, how is he World Famous in SF? I thought that dude was British”. Well, he’s not, he’s from Ohio. However, our friend Stephen Kijak (and one time San Francisco resident) made a film about the man and tonight is the long overdue San Francisco debut.

We’ve seen the movie and its really great, its a must see if you’re a fan and if you don’t know who Scott Walker is then you should do yourself a favor and check out this film and learn about one time sixties pop group heart throb turned visionary (and reclusive) composer/avant guard genius. Stephen will be present at screenings of the film this weekend both in San Francisco and Berkeley and there’s an opening night party at the Casanova Lounge (527 Valencia St, San Francisco) hosted by Aquarius Records and Noise Pop.

Aaron should start a speed dating course, because I’ve seen him work with ruthless efficiency (even if, hilariously, he doesn’t realize it).

The other night, Aaron was at the Phone Booth for a little bon voyage party before Andrew left on on a four month European vacation (leaving the Passionistas bassless). A nice boy mistook Aaron “NO HOMO” Sunshine as a fellow homosexual. This boy came over, phone number in hand, and politely introduces himself. I look over to see this situation unfolding and as the boy is trying to hand Aaron the phone number Aaron says very matter of fact, “Keep it, I won’t call you” and goes back to talking to us. I’m laughing. The boy walks away shocked, probably a little put off, and completely unaware that Aaron is neither gay nor the queen bitch of a roving band of bitchy queers.

It’s that time of year again to project what 2k9 will be ALL ABOUT. So here it is!

Myles will lose his phone.

This will be the Passionistas year- just like 2006, 2007 and 2008.

A certain somebody who everyone thinks is gay will come out.

This post will be a 1/12th of this years blogging.

Danyol will continue to produce paintings influenced by ‘Warhol, Haring and Basquiat’ in which he ‘delighfully plays with concepts of gender, sexuality and consumerism.’

Randy will start and destroy a new band.

‘Cool kid’ will replace ‘Hipster’.

Jealousy’s album will be really good.

A certain power couple will split, but they will still be friends.

Hard Place will put out an even better album and people will continue to be bizarrely indifferent.

The 7″ that the Passionistas are “almost done with” will take another six months to complete.

Bridez will achieve there goal and sound like Screamadelica. Unfortunately, neither Will nor Liza will be in the band at that point.

Somebody cool will die.

MCB will reform, actually fronted by a drunk goat. Tom will get mad at the goat for bleating over his best music ever.

The Passionistas are featured in today’s Chronicle, where they talk about their new seven inch on this here label and their creative process now that they have three songwriters. If, like us, you’re somewhat baffled by this band that claims their ambition is to write mega popular songs and be famous but attempt to achieve this through deceptively simple songs — albeit, lampooning their grandmothers and pontificating on Y2K years after the fact — set next to more experimental musical ventures about “The American Whale”, then this article is a good read.

Speaking of the experimental side of The Passionistas, their seven inch may be pure pop but they’re still trying new things. Not since the Y2K video have we been this baffled by The Passionistas.
