Bronze – The Rouge Became b/w Wits

July 14th, 2010 Comments Off

Listen: The Rouge Became

Buy: The Rouge Became b/w Wits

After blowing us away for years with their live show, we’re excited to announce the release of The Rouge Became b/w Wits by Bronze. Featuring members of C.L.A.W.S., The Vanishing and Fuckwolf, Bronze perform a bit of alchemy, turning psychedelic, dance, post punk, and krautrock into their own dark, hypnotic thing.

Think Section 25 fronted by Nico. Think Suicide fronted by William Shatner. Think The Doors. Don’t think at all! Bronze will put you into the deep freeze on the dancefloor with their impersonal dark wave performance thing. Two new jams full of pounding drums, synth squiggles and zombie vocals eminating from the heart of the concrete jungle in the dead of night. And on a fancy little picture disc to boot!

Limited to 500 so get it while you can.

Hi again

Did you miss us? Do you like our new look? We know its been quiet, but we’ve been busy. We have a bunch of new projects coming up, including a release from one of our favorite SF acts Bronze and a new imprint we’re cooking up thats gonna be called “designer vagina”. Keep an eye out for updates or join our mailing list to keep current on whats going on.

In the meantime, check out World Famous in SF alum Myles Cooper. He has a new 7 inch, “Gonna Find Boyfriends Today” b/w “Lord Love Music”, out on transparent. These tunes are pretty choice and its limited to 300 hundred so you might want to act fast.

If you haven’t seen the video for Gonna Find Boyfriends Today, watch it below. It pretty much defines the modern gay psychedelic experience. With puppets.

Brian Glaze – Green Living Record Release 8/1 @ Amnesia

The SF Weekly found Green Living, released 7/28 on World Famous in SF, to be “a combination of ’70s bedroom-freak Gary Wilson and ’80s pop screwball Lawrence Hayward of Felt, recorded at the epicenter of the current hipster underground.”

We here at World Famous like those comparisons and are extremely pleased that Green Living entered the CMJ top 200 it’s first week out. Response from DJ’s has been extremely positive:

“Oh man, the 1980s! Glamour! Dancing! Not being obnoxious and creating music that throws back this hard to that era is an incredible, incredible feet. Synth rock nu-wave that is so incredibly spot on and so well crafted I couldn’t not give it a nod.”

“got hooked on (1) second it started – I feel no shame in liking something that combines the most addictive musical elements of disco and lo-fi with retro pop rock.”

“Lo-fi masterpiece with an air of 60’s psychedelic pop/folk, hints of surf rock and new wave bleeding through. a moody, atmospheric sound.”

Copies of the LP will be on sale as well as a limited edition promo CD version of the album that is not available in store. Tom & Jeremy of World Famous in SF will be there live and in person selling the record. Please come out and help us celebrate the release of this excellent LP!

Bonus! This is a triple record release show, also appearing The Splinters, and The Perverts all celebrating new vinyl. The Splinters’ first official release is the Splintered Bridges 7″ on the excellent Double Negative Records (Battleship, The Fucking Ocean).

Garage rock trio The Perverts celebrate the recent release of their debut 7″ by HBSP-2X Records, and the band opens Saturday’s show.

Brian Glaze – Green Living pre-order

June 22nd, 2009 Comments Off

Hey y’all, Green Living, the new record by Brian Glaze, is due for release on July 28th but we’re taking pre-orders starting now. Pre-orders of the vinyl come with a free mp3 download of the album!

Green Living by Brian Glaze

Brian Glaze’s notoriety as the original drummer in the Brian Jonestown Massacre is forever eclipsed by his status as a singer/songwriter with his new LP, Green Living, out July 13 on World Famous In San Francisco. This “best of” collection of home recordings makes fora surprisingly cohesive album with a strong narrative arc.

In the past Glaze has collaborated in the studio and on the road with Greg Ashley of Gris Gris fame, here Brian has constructed every recording by himself and the result is his most focused effort to date best evidenced in what proves to be the definitive take on “Bad News.” This moody atmospheric demo truly conjures up the feeling that bad news is indeed lurking in the shadows no matter where you go and is sooner or later bound to turn up. Songs like “Leader of The Band” a strange mash-up of classic Elton John la la la’s and Ariel Pink’s densely layered production is pure pop with a hip lo-fi aesthetic. “Killing Time”recalls shades of Creation Records psychedelic pop band Revolving Paint Dream while “Silver Ashes” mines the territory of late 70’s new wave. The last song on the LP, “Shake Shiloh,” find’s Glaze literally singing “Goodbye” to the listener. Bringing a true sense of closure to an intensely personal musical experience. This record proves that the strength of the song and the highly personal nature of home demo recordings are tough to improve upon. This is Brian Glaze at his best.
